Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine suffered from phishing incident that exposed employee information, social security numbers.
The 2,474 employees and their beneficiaries whose personal information (name, date of birth, and/or social security number) was hacked were found after they examined more than 100,000 emails and 6,700 documents manually.
No patient or student data was impacted by this incident.
Employees and beneficiaries whose personal information was found in the accessed email account received notice letters from the school via mail and the letter includes best practices to protect personal information as well as complimentary membership for credit monitoring services.
