Universal Lenders Data Breach Settlement Offers Compensation to Affected Customers
In early 2026, Universal Lenders LLC reached a class action settlement following a November 2024 cyberattack that exposed sensitive personal data of approximately 19,575 current and former customers. The breach compromised names, Social Security numbers, financial account details, and driver’s license numbers.
Eligible individuals those who received a mailed notice from Universal Lenders may submit claims for compensation by April 13, 2026. Settlement benefits include:
- Three years of single-bureau credit monitoring, featuring $1 million in identity theft insurance, real-time credit file monitoring, dark web scanning, and public records monitoring.
- Up to $2,500 in expense reimbursement for documented out-of-pocket costs related to the breach, such as credit report fees, card replacement charges, or fraudulent transaction expenses.
- A one-time $50 cash payment for those who opt out of expense reimbursement.
Claims can be filed online or via mail/email to the settlement administrator, with supporting documentation required for expense reimbursements. Payments and credit monitoring services will be distributed approximately 75 days after final court approval (scheduled for April 21, 2026) or within 30 days of claim processing completion.
The lawsuit alleged Universal Lenders failed to adequately safeguard customer data, though the company denies wrongdoing and settled to avoid prolonged litigation. The settlement fund covers administration costs, $200,000 in attorneys’ fees, $1,500 service awards for class representatives, and payouts to approved claimants. The opt-out deadline is March 14, 2026.
