The whole population of Argentina's ID card data has been taken by a hacker who broke into the government's IT system; this information is currently being sold in private circles.
The intrusion, which happened last month, targeted RENAPER, also known as the National Registry of Persons or Registro Nacional de las Personas.
The organization serves as a key cog inside the Argentine Interior Ministry, which is tasked with issuing national ID cards to all citizens. It also stores data in digital form in a database that is accessible to other government agencies, serving as the foundation for the majority of government requests for personal information about citizens.
