Mighty Kingdom, Australian Game Studio, Hit by Direwolf Ransomware Attack
Adelaide-based game developer Mighty Kingdom has been listed as a victim of the Direwolf ransomware group, which claims to have exfiltrated over 260 code repositories on August 17. The compromised data reportedly includes source code for licensed intellectual properties such as Barbie, Conan Chop Chop, and Peter Rabbit, alongside original IPs, rapid prototypes, and internal projects.
Direwolf, a financially motivated hacking group first observed in May 2025, has previously targeted organizations like the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia and Wine Works Australia. The group has claimed 96 victims to date and operates without a political agenda, focusing solely on monetary gain. As of now, no ransom demand has been published, nor has evidence of the breach been released, though the leak site listing suggests the attack occurred within the last 14 days.
Mighty Kingdom, founded in 2010, is one of Australia’s largest independent game studios and the only publicly listed game developer on the ASX. The studio has developed over 50 games, amassing more than 50 million downloads, and has partnered with major brands including Disney, LEGO, Mattel, and Google. The company has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the incident.
The full extent of the breach and its potential impact on ongoing projects remains unclear.
