The Maine Office of the Attorney General reported that the City of Independence, Missouri experienced a data breach due to external hacking between September 7, 2020, and December 1, 2020. The breach, discovered on March 12, 2021, potentially affected 113,579 individuals, including personal information such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and driver’s license numbers. Written notifications were sent to affected individuals on July 16, 2021, and complimentary credit monitoring services were offered for one year through Experian.
