Yes Communities Data Breach Settlement Offers Compensation to Affected Individuals
A class action settlement has been reached in a lawsuit against Yes Communities, resolving claims that the company failed to adequately protect sensitive personal data during a December 2024 data breach. Hackers allegedly accessed and stole unencrypted information, including Social Security numbers, financial account details, birthdates, and driver’s license numbers, during a ransomware attack between December 9 and 11, 2024.
Who is eligible?
Individuals in the U.S. who received a mailed notice confirming their data was impacted in the breach may qualify for compensation. Eligible class members can choose from several payout options:
- Up to $2,500 for documented, unreimbursed losses (e.g., credit monitoring, identity theft expenses, or credit freezes).
- $20 per hour (max $80) for time spent addressing the breach’s consequences.
- A $50 cash payment as an alternative to documented claims.
- Three years of free credit monitoring through IDX from one credit bureau.
How to file a claim
Claims can be submitted online, by mail, or by phone using the ID and PIN provided in the settlement notice. The deadline to file is November 5, 2026. Documentation is required for reimbursement claims but not for lost time or the $50 cash payment.
Settlement fund details
The total settlement fund covers:
- Up to $217,000 in attorneys’ fees and expenses.
- $12,500 in service awards for class representatives.
