WSSC Water was targeted by a ransomware attack in late May 2021.
The attackers accessed the internal files of the company and encrypted the data.
However, drinking water and wastewater systems were not affected nor was the quality or reliability of drinking water.
The systems were soon recovered and restored from the backup without paying any ransom.
