Wright Brothers Construction Settles $500,000 Over 2024 Data Breach
Wright Brothers Construction Co. has agreed to a $500,000 settlement in a class action lawsuit following a cyberattack in April 2024 that exposed the personal data of 4,780 current and former employees. The breach compromised sensitive information, including names and Social Security numbers, prompting allegations that the company failed to implement adequate security measures.
Affected individuals those who received a notification letter about the incident may file claims for reimbursement under the settlement. Eligible expenses include up to $425 for documented out-of-pocket costs (e.g., credit monitoring, ID replacement, or credit freezes) and up to $4,250 for fraud or identity theft losses directly tied to the breach. Claimants can also seek compensation for up to four hours of lost time at $23 per hour, or opt for a $50 one-time cash payment. All class members are entitled to three years of free credit monitoring, including $1 million in identity theft insurance.
The settlement fund will cover administrative costs, $192,500 in attorneys' fees, a $3,000 service award for the class representative, and payments to claimants. Claims must be submitted by August 18, 2026, with payouts expected approximately 90 days after final court approval. The opt-out deadline is August 3, 2026.
Wright Brothers Construction denies wrongdoing but settled to avoid prolonged litigation. The breach was reportedly the result of a targeted cyberattack on the company’s systems.
