WPM Pathology Lab and Salina Regional Health Center Reach $4,000 Settlement Following 2024 Data Breach
A class action settlement has been reached between WPM Pathology Laboratory, Salina Regional Health Center, and approximately 5,619 individuals affected by a November 2024 data breach. The cyberattack exposed sensitive personal and health information, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, medical record details, and health insurance claims.
Under the settlement, eligible current and former patients those notified of the breach may file claims for reimbursement of expenses, lost time, or a one-time cash payment. Compensation options include:
- Up to $400 for documented out-of-pocket expenses (e.g., credit monitoring, ID replacement).
- Up to $4,000 for extraordinary losses tied to identity theft or fraud.
- Up to $80 for time spent responding to the breach (four hours at $20/hour).
- A $45 cash payment for those not submitting expense claims.
- Two years of CyEx Identity Defense Complete credit monitoring, including $1 million in identity theft insurance.
Claims must be submitted by October 19, 2026, with payments distributed approximately 60 days after the court’s final approval on December 16, 2026. The settlement fund covers administrative costs, up to $150,000 in attorneys’ fees, and a $2,500 service award to the class representative. While the defendants deny wrongdoing, they agreed to settle to avoid prolonged litigation.
The breach stemmed from a targeted cyberattack that compromised systems containing patient data, raising concerns over inadequate security measures. Affected individuals were notified directly by the organizations.
