Whitman Hospital Settles $500,000 Over 2024-2025 Data Breach
Whitman Hospital & Medical Clinics has agreed to a $500,000 settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit stemming from a data breach that exposed sensitive patient information between December 26, 2024, and February 28, 2025. The breach allegedly resulted from inadequate data protection measures, leading to claims of negligence, breach of implied contract, unjust enrichment, and violations of Washington state privacy laws.
Eligibility & Compensation
U.S. residents affected by the breach may qualify for compensation if they can demonstrate that their private information was compromised. Claimants have two payment options:
- Cash Payment A: Up to $5,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses (e.g., financial fraud, identity theft) with supporting evidence.
- Cash Payment B: An estimated $60 alternative payment, with the final amount adjusted based on the number of valid claims.
- Credit Monitoring: Two years of IDX Identity Protection Services, including credit monitoring, dark web surveillance, $1 million reimbursement insurance, and lost wallet assistance.
Claim Process & Deadlines
Affected individuals must submit a claim form either online or by mail by June 24, 2026. Payments will be distributed via PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or check after final court approval, expected following the July 9, 2026, hearing. Those opting out of the settlement must do so by June 9, 2026.
Settlement Fund Allocation
The $500,000 fund covers:
- Attorney fees (up to $166,650)
- Settlement administration costs (to be determined)
- Class representative service award (up to $3,000)
- Remaining balance for eligible claimants
Whitman Hospital denies wrongdoing but settled to avoid prolonged litigation. Payments will be issued after the court resolves any appeals.
