Ransomware Group Kairos Claims Data Breach of New Zealand Textile Supplier Warwick Fabrics
The New Zealand division of Melbourne-based textile supplier Warwick Fabrics has reportedly fallen victim to a ransomware attack by the Kairos cyber extortion group, which listed the company on its leak site on 3 July. The hackers claim to have exfiltrated 386GB of stolen data, which they have since published in full.
As proof of compromise, Kairos released select documents, including employee salary records, financial performance reviews, commercial pricing data, and sensitive personal information such as a scanned passport, a medical report, and a last will and testament. No ransom demand has been publicly disclosed, and Warwick Fabrics has not responded to requests for comment.
Kairos, a ransomware group active since November 2024, has claimed 92 victims to date, primarily targeting Australian organizations. Its most recent confirmed breach involved Australian property management firm LR Reed in July. According to threat intelligence firm CYJAX, Kairos operates on Russian-language hacking forums and is not known to be affiliated with other major cybercrime groups. The group typically gives victims seven days to pay and offers discounts for prompt compliance.
Warwick Fabrics, a global textiles wholesaler, operates its New Zealand arm from Mairangi Bay (Auckland), with additional offices in Christchurch and Wellington, employing 39 full-time staff. This marks the group’s first confirmed attack on a New Zealand-based entity.
