A website server flaw that exposed secure internal files to internet search visibility was discovered by the University of Washington Medicine.

When a mistake caused 974,000 patients' protected health information to be available online for three weeks, the organization is informing the affected people.

The compromised information includes names, medical record numbers, and a description and purpose of the information. The files did not contain any medical records, patient financial information, or Social Security numbers.

At this time, there is no evidence that there has been any misuse or attempted use of the information exposed in this incident.
