UK Cybersecurity Breach Rates Hold Steady as Phishing Dominates Threat Landscape
A UK government survey revealed that 43% of British businesses experienced at least one cyber breach or attack in 2025/26, mirroring the previous year’s figures. The Cyber Security Breaches Survey, published on April 30, estimated that 612,000 businesses reported incidents over the past 12 months, with phishing attacks remaining the most common threat, affecting 38% of organizations.
While the breach rate has stabilized, it marks a decline from 2023/24, when 50% of businesses reported cyber incidents. Despite the drop, UK officials have warned of escalating risks, particularly from AI-driven threats and state-linked cyber attacks. The head of Britain’s cybersecurity agency recently highlighted the growing danger posed by hostile nations, while government ministers issued an open letter urging businesses to address AI-related vulnerabilities.
The findings underscore persistent cybersecurity challenges for UK firms, even as overall breach frequency shows signs of plateauing.
