Trump Mobile Hit by Data Leak Ahead of Long-Delayed Launch
Trump Mobile, the $499 gold-colored smartphone tied to former President Donald Trump, has faced another setback just as it prepares to ship nearly a year behind schedule. A security flaw exposed customer data, including emails, phone numbers, and addresses, affecting all users who pre-ordered the device.
The vulnerability was first reported by the YouTube account voidzilla, after an anonymous hacker claimed to have accessed the sensitive information. The hacker also disputed Trump Mobile’s claimed order numbers, stating that only about 10,000 unique customers placed roughly 30,000 orders far below the company’s advertised 590,000 pre-orders. The Trump Organization has not responded to requests for comment.
Originally announced in June 2023 with an August release date, the T1 phone was finally set to ship in the coming weeks after multiple delays. The device, which comes with Truth Social pre-installed, was initially marketed as "Made in the USA," but promotional materials later softened the claim to "designed with American values in mind." Reports also note the phone closely resembles a $127.99 Chinese-made model sold at Walmart.
Additional scrutiny has focused on the phone’s design, including an American flag on its back featuring only 11 stripes instead of the standard 13. Despite the controversies, the device will launch with a $47.45 monthly service plan.
