GOLF MANOR, Ohio (WXIX) - A small village in Hamilton County is weighing its options after its computer systems were hacked for ransom.
The Village of Golf Manor fell victim to the ransomware attack, resulting in the loss of its computer files, including all of their backups, according to Resolution No. 2025-30.
On Nov. 24, the village council met and passed Resolution No. 2025-30, which will pay for the guidance of a third-party group of experts to help.
The resolution says the experts may advise the village to “make a ransom payment” in exchange for the decryption key for the village’s computer networks and backup data.
“The village is not at a stage where we have any interest whatsoever in paying this ransom, however, the legal counsel that was assigned to us by our insurance company did recommend that we pass this,” said one member of council.
There are still a few unknown answers to the situation, such as what the hackers want and how much it could cost the village.
FOX19 NOW has reached out to the Village of Golf Manor but has not heard back yet.
This is not the first time an Ohio town has dealt with a cyber attack in exchange for ransom.
In August, the City of Middletown dealt with a cybersecurity attack, shutting down several city functions for multiple days, including the police department and paying utilities.
As of now, it is unclear how the cyber attack impacts Golf Manor residents and services.
