Tempel Steel Co. LLC has agreed to a $175,000 class action settlement following a February 2025 cyberattack that exposed sensitive personal data. The breach potentially compromised names, addresses, Social Security numbers, tax IDs, dates of birth, health insurance details, driver’s license numbers, and financial account information of approximately 5,192 U.S. residents.
Eligible class members those notified of the incident or whose data was exposed can file claims for reimbursement, compensation, or credit monitoring services. Available benefits include:
- Ordinary expenses: Up to $1,000 for documented out-of-pocket costs (e.g., credit monitoring, ID replacement, bank fees).
- Lost time: Up to $80 for four hours of time spent responding to the breach.
- Extraordinary expenses: Up to $4,000 for identity theft or fraud losses linked to the breach (proof required).
- Alternative cash payment: A one-time $25 payment with no documentation needed.
- Credit monitoring: Two years of CyEx Identity Defense Total, including $1 million in identity theft insurance and dark web monitoring.
Claims must be submitted online or by mail by April 6, 2026, with payments distributed after final court approval. The settlement also allocates funds for administration costs, attorneys’ fees ($175,000), and a $4,000 service award to the class representative. Tempel Steel denies wrongdoing but settled to avoid further litigation.
