Social Security Data Breach Exposes Personal Information of All Americans, Whistleblower Warns
A former chief data officer at the Social Security Administration (SSA) has raised alarms over a potential national security disaster, alleging that the personal data of every American with a Social Security number past or present may have been compromised. Chuck Borges, who resigned in August, filed a whistleblower complaint accusing the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) of uploading the SSA’s entire database to an unsecured cloud environment without proper oversight.
The exposed data reportedly includes names, Social Security numbers, and addresses sensitive information that could fuel identity theft and fraud for decades. Borges described the breach as a long-term threat to national security, warning that the fallout could impact Americans for the rest of their lives.
The incident has drawn calls for congressional investigation, with Borges asserting that the government’s mismanagement of this data demands urgent scrutiny. The full extent of the breach and its potential consequences remain under review, but the allegations underscore critical vulnerabilities in federal data protection protocols.
