Belgium's state security service, the VSSE, was the target of an alleged Chinese cyberattack which compromised its email system. Exploiting a vulnerability in Barracuda Networks' email security product, the attackers siphoned off 10% of VSSE's emails, potentially leading to exposure of personal data of the agency’s staff and applicants. While classified communications remained secure, the breach involved sensitive human resources information. There has been no confirmed data leak on the dark web, and the agency has taken steps to mitigate the risks of identity fraud.
