Cybersecurity Incident Disrupts IT Systems at South Australian School

A cybersecurity breach has forced Reynella East College, a South Australian school in Adelaide’s southern suburbs, to take its IT systems offline for at least several days. The incident, disclosed in a letter to parents and carers on 9 June, was confirmed by the state’s Department for Education, which is working with the school and specialist teams to investigate and restore affected systems.

The letter, co-signed by the school’s principal and chief information officer, stated that systems are unlikely to be restored this week, though classes are continuing as normal. While the investigation remains ongoing, the school acknowledged concerns about potential impacts on student data but confirmed no further details on personal information exposure had been released at this stage.

Reynella East College, which serves over 1,900 students from preschool to Year 12, also runs international and study abroad programs. As of now, no threat actor has claimed responsibility for the attack. The Department for Education and the school have not provided additional comments beyond the initial notification.
