Ransomware Group Storm Targets South Australian Farm Machinery Supplier
A South Australian farm machinery distributor, Ramsey Bros, has become the latest Australian victim of the Storm ransomware group, marking the 109th local organization listed on darknet leak sites this year. The breach was disclosed on August 17, with the hackers threatening to publish stolen data in full on September 4.
Storm has already released over a dozen documents allegedly taken during the attack, including invoices, customer correspondence, vehicle inspection reports, Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs), and driver details with contact information. No ransom demand has been publicly shared. Ramsey Bros, which has operated on the Eyre Peninsula for 70 years, has not responded to requests for comment.
Storm, a newly emerged ransomware group, has claimed 26 victims since its debut this month, including three Australian targets. The group positions itself as a "premier, results-driven firm" and is actively recruiting affiliates while avoiding attacks on organizations within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Ramsey Bros, a supplier of new and used farm machinery, parts, and servicing, operates six dealerships in South Australia and serves over 5,000 farms and businesses across the state. The full extent of the data breach and its operational impact remain unclear.
