Pottawatomie County, KS

Pottawatomie County was targeted by the cyber attack in October 2021.

County officials said several of their servers were encrypted during a cyber attack.

An almost unheard-of outcome saw the ransom cut by more than 90% from the hackers' initial demand, and every dollar saved is money from taxpayers that the county preserves to help its residents.

The county was able to resolve the attack by paying less than 10% of the hacker’s original demands.

IT team has installed additional sensors on all servers to detect and prevent further attacks.
