62.5% of Filipino ICT Users Hit by Cybersecurity Incidents in 2024
A recent report from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reveals that 62.5% of Filipinos aged 10 and older approximately 24.28 million out of 38.86 million users experienced at least one cybersecurity incident in 2024.
SMS fraud emerged as the most prevalent threat, affecting 57.1% of victims, followed by hacking (7.8%), phishing (6.1%), and cyberbullying or cyber libel (1.1%). Regional data showed Mimaropa (73.6%), Bicol (72%), and Central Luzon (67%) with the highest incident rates, while Zamboanga Peninsula (35.7%) recorded the lowest.
The 25–34 age group was the most affected (68%), followed by 35–44 (65.7%) and 55–64 (65.3%).
In response to rising scams, Meta Platforms announced усиленные меры to combat fraudulent content, leveraging AI-powered detection systems. At the Digital Bayanihan Safety Summit 2026, Meta Philippines’ head of public policy, Gio Tingson, confirmed the company’s focus on online safety, noting that 159 million scam ads were removed globally in 2025. The tech giant, which owns Facebook and Instagram, continues to prioritize fraud prevention through advanced monitoring.
