Norwegian Gaming Operator Norsk Tipping Hit by Second Consecutive DDoS Attack
Norwegian state-owned gaming operator Norsk Tipping faced a second Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack in as many days, disrupting its online services on Wednesday evening. The company confirmed the incident, which caused slowdowns across its digital platforms, following a similar attack on Tuesday.
Anne Marit Sletten, Senior Communications Adviser at Norsk Tipping, stated that the attack overwhelmed systems with excessive traffic, leading to service delays. Telenor, the telecommunications provider assisting in mitigation efforts, worked to filter out malicious traffic. By 11 p.m. local time, Norsk Tipping’s Pål Enger, Head of Press and Public Affairs, reported that the situation was under control but noted that monitoring would continue overnight.
Enger confirmed that the attack was deliberate, with no immediate information on the perpetrators. Unlike data breaches, DDoS attacks do not involve theft of personal information but instead flood networks to disrupt operations. Wednesday’s attack was described as larger than Tuesday’s, which had temporarily affected services, including the KongKasino games.
Norsk Tipping, headquartered in Hamar, remains in close coordination with Telenor to investigate the attacks, though it is unclear whether the two incidents are linked. The company aims to gather more details on those responsible in the coming days.
