New York City Police Department

After a ransomware virus infected 23 computers linked to the database over the weekend, the New York Police Department (NYPD) shut down its LiveScan fingerprint tracking system.

An infected NUC mini-PC was plugged in by a contractor who was setting up a digital display at a Queens police school.

23 machines linked to the LiveScan system were infected by an unknown virus that was distributed by the minicomputer.

The vendor, who was questioned but ultimately not charged, has not been made public by the authorities. This impacted 0.1% of the department's systems, an NYPD spokeswoman informed the outlet.
