A recent report by identity security firm Netwrix reveals a stark disparity in data breach rates between companies that widely use AI tools and those that do not. Over the past 12 months, organizations heavily integrating AI experienced a 43% breach rate, compared to just 11% among companies with limited or no AI adoption.
The increased risk stems from AI tools expanding an organization’s "identity footprint" the collection of digital identities, permissions, and access points creating additional vulnerabilities for threat actors to exploit. AI-driven agents and automation introduce new entry points, complicating identity management and widening potential attack surfaces.
