Mutual of America Life Insurance Reports Data Breach Affecting Personal Information

Mutual of America Life Insurance Co., a Manhattan-based financial services provider specializing in retirement products, disclosed a data breach involving unauthorized access to sensitive files within its network. The incident was reported to the New Hampshire Attorney General on March 23, 2026, with four New Hampshire residents confirmed as affected. Notifications to impacted individuals began the same day.

The breach was detected on November 29, 2025, after suspicious activity prompted an internal investigation. Forensic analysis revealed that unauthorized parties accessed or copied files between November 14 and November 29, 2025. A subsequent review, completed nearly four months later, determined that exposed data may have included names, Social Security numbers, and driver’s license numbers.

In response, Mutual of America is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring through Experian IdentityWorks, including daily credit reports, fraud alerts, identity restoration support, and $1 million in identity theft insurance. Affected individuals must enroll by June 30, 2026, using an activation code provided in their notification letters. Immediate identity restoration assistance is also available, even before enrollment.

The company has notified relevant state regulators and the three major credit bureaus Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. A dedicated assistance line (883-918-9653) has been established for inquiries, operating Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET.
