Murata Electronics North America Discloses Year-Long Data Breach Impacting Sensitive Personal Information
Murata Electronics North America Inc., the Atlanta-based subsidiary of Japanese electronics manufacturer Murata Manufacturing Co. Ltd., has reported a prolonged data breach involving unauthorized access to its IT systems. The intrusion, which persisted for nearly 12 months, began in March 2025 and was only detected and contained in early 2026.
Upon discovering the breach, Murata blocked external network access and engaged a third-party cybersecurity firm to conduct a forensic investigation, which ran from March 1 to April 6, 2026. The exposed data included Social Security numbers, driver’s licenses, financial account details, and medical records.
The breach was formally disclosed to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation. In response, Murata is offering affected individuals 24 months of free identity monitoring through Kroll, including triple-bureau credit monitoring, $1 million in identity fraud loss reimbursement, and fraud consultation services. Those impacted can enroll via Kroll’s portal using a membership ID provided in notification letters.
For further assistance, Murata has established a dedicated call center (844-403-4625) operating Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Central Time, as well as an online contact form. The incident underscores the extended exposure risks associated with undetected cyber intrusions.
