A vast amount of legally secret documents from the Panamanian legal firm Mossack Fonseca were made public online and are known as the Panama Papers.
2.6 Terabytes of data about the operations of offshore shell firms employed by the world's most powerful individuals may be found in the firm's full archive, which comprises over 11.5 million files.
The validity of the leaked documents was verified by Ramon Fonseca, co-founder of the Mossack Fonseca law company, to Channel 2 in Panama.
An unknown source and the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) provided the German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung with access to the Panama Papers information.
