Russian Dairy Supply Chain Disrupted by Cyberattack on Mercury Certification Platform
Major Russian retailers, including Lenta, Miratorg, and Yandex Lavka, have reported significant disruptions to their dairy supply chains following a cyberattack last week on the Mercury platform. The system, managed by Russia’s Federal State Information System for Veterinary Surveillance (VetIS), is critical for certifying animal-based products and facilitating data exchanges with the country’s mandatory product labeling system.
The outage has severely impacted large-volume food producers, halting operations and creating widespread logistical challenges. While VetIS has confirmed restoration efforts are underway, this marks the third attack on Mercury this year and the most severe to date. No threat group has claimed responsibility for the intrusion.
The incident follows a recent ransomware attack on southern Siberia’s largest dairy processing plant, which involved a variant of the LockBit ransomware, underscoring growing cyber threats to Russia’s food supply infrastructure.
