The Manhasset Union Free School District was the victim of a ransomware attack that encrypted the school district’s computer systems.
The compromised information includes students' names, date of birth, and allergies or health conditions, including one list with the entire 7th-grade student names and medical conditions.
They alerted law enforcement and worked with cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident and able to restore computer systems from backups.
As a result, the District refrained from paying the offenders a ransom.
