AP Møller-Maersk
In June 2017, AP Møller-Maersk fell victim to the NotPetya malware attack that caused massive disruptions in its operations. The attack corrupted the company's computer network, halting the operations at 76 ports and nearly 800 vessels across the globe. This represented around a fifth of the world's shipping capacity, and operations from New Jersey to Los Angeles, and Rotterdam to Mumbai were impacted. Recovery took approximately two weeks, during which Maersk could not make any new bookings, affecting its revenue significantly. The attack on this scale showcased the vulnerability of the global supply chain to cyber threats.
