After a ransomware attack by hackers prompted the system-wide outage, the computer network for the Las Cruces Public Schools remained unavailable for more than a week.
The length of the technology outage is yet unknown, according to officials, who also noted that every computer in the district had to be cleaned in an effort to prevent a second ransomware attack.
The school district said it had now recruited outside computer forensic experts to make sure that no information was exposed, while initially asserting that it didn't believe any staff or student data breaches had occurred.
The district's computer technicians said they were now working to repair crucial systems and connect them to a new network so schools can access student data.
