Lansing Community College Hit by Data Breach Affecting Over 170,000 Individuals
Lansing Community College (LCC) in Michigan experienced a data breach on February 12, which was discovered six days later on February 18. The incident exposed sensitive personal information of 174,307 individuals, according to the Office of the Maine Attorney General.
A third-party security investigation revealed that hackers accessed a range of data, including names, addresses, dates of birth, driver’s license details, and Social Security numbers. However, LCC stated in a notification letter that not all affected individuals had the same types of information compromised, and there is currently no evidence that the data was exfiltrated or misused.
The college began notifying impacted individuals approximately one week after detecting the breach and is offering 24 months of free credit monitoring and identity protection services to those affected. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office has been contacted for further details, though no additional public statements have been released.
