Lansing Community College Discloses Data Breach Affecting Personal Information
Lansing Community College (LCC), a public institution in downtown Lansing, Michigan, reported a data breach involving unauthorized access to its network systems. The incident was detected on February 18, 2025, after which the college engaged third-party cybersecurity experts to secure its systems and investigate the breach.
The investigation revealed that an unauthorized actor gained access on February 12, 2025, through compromised credentials. Exposed data varied by individual but potentially included names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and other personal information stored by the college.
The breach was officially reported to the California Attorney General on June 5, 2026.
In response, LCC is offering 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services to affected individuals, including one-bureau credit monitoring, dark web monitoring, credit freeze assistance, and identity restoration support. Eligible individuals can enroll using an activation code provided in their notification letter or by calling 866-675-2006 (Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5:30 p.m. ET). A dedicated assistance line (866-659-7088) is also available for further inquiries, along with a mailing address for written correspondence.
