TeleMiracle Donor Data Potentially Exposed in Unauthorized System Access
The Kinsmen Foundation, the organization behind Saskatchewan’s annual TeleMiracle fundraiser, has disclosed a potential data breach affecting some donors. On Wednesday, the charity announced that it detected "unauthorized access to certain applications" on its systems, which may have compromised donor contact information.
Affected data could include names, email addresses, phone numbers, residential addresses, and donation amounts, according to an email sent to a donor and reviewed by CBC News. The foundation is currently notifying individuals whose information may have been exposed.
Saskatoon police have confirmed an ongoing investigation but have not released further details. The Kinsmen Foundation stated that law enforcement was notified, and third-party experts are conducting a forensic review. While the charity’s credit card and cheque processing systems remained unaffected, it warned donors to remain vigilant against phishing attempts posing as legitimate communications from TeleMiracle or the Kinsmen Foundation.
The foundation has secured its systems and implemented additional security measures in response to the incident. If the investigation confirms a data leak, impacted donors will be notified directly. No financial losses have been reported.
