The breach was detected on December 16, 2025, after the facility identified suspicious activity within its systems. An investigation, assisted by independent cybersecurity experts, revealed that unauthorized access occurred between December 10 and December 16, 2025. During this period, an unauthorized party accessed systems containing sensitive resident data.
On December 23, 2025, the ransomware group Qilin claimed responsibility for the breach, posting details on the dark web via the Tor network. The exposed information included residents’ full or partial names, Social Security numbers, and dates of birth.
In response, Shore Gardens took immediate steps to contain the incident, secure its network, and implement enhanced security measures, including additional monitoring protocols and staff training. The facility also established a dedicated toll-free call center (844-430-3359) for affected individuals, operating Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time, excluding major U.S. holidays.
