A federal judge in Nevada has ruled that Judge Consulting Inc. must defend itself against two claims in a proposed class action lawsuit alleging the firm failed to safeguard the personal data of over 1.2 million patients. The breach, targeting nationwide dental-care provider Absolute Dental Group LLC, exposed sensitive health information, prompting allegations of negligence and unjust enrichment.

In December 2025, Judge Jennifer A. Dorsey denied Judge Consulting’s bid to dismiss the case, finding that the plaintiffs had sufficiently demonstrated concrete harm to establish legal standing. The lawsuit also seeks a $3.3 million settlement from Absolute Dental, a co-defendant in the case.

The ruling underscores the growing legal and financial risks for third-party vendors handling sensitive health data, as courts increasingly recognize the standing of breach victims to pursue damages. The case remains ongoing in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada.
