The staff computer systems of Japan Pension Service were improperly accessed by an external email virus that leaked the personal information of more than a million cases.
The leaked information involved combinations of names, identification numbers, birth dates and addresses of some 1.25 million people.
The pension service was setting up a team to investigate the cause and took preventive steps to secure the systems.
