Iran Escalates Cyberattacks on Israel Amid Ongoing Conflict

Israel has accused Iran of significantly ramping up cyberattacks against its critical infrastructure, government entities, and businesses, following the launch of a joint US-Israeli offensive against Tehran in February 2026. According to Yossi Karadi, Director General of Israel’s National Cyber Directorate, cyber incidents surged from approximately 1,600 in June 2025 to 4,800 in June 2026 a threefold increase with Iranian-linked groups blamed for the majority of the attacks.

The cyber campaign targeted central organizations, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and public services, aiming to disrupt operations and destroy data. While Israel’s defenses successfully prevented major breaches of critical infrastructure, Karadi warned that weaker security systems in some companies led to complete data loss following successful intrusions. He emphasized the persistent nature of cyber warfare, stating, “Unlike in the kinetic realm, there’s no ceasefire in cyberspace.”

Despite Iran’s denial of involvement in offensive cyber operations claiming instead that its own systems have been targeted Israel maintains that the attacks are part of a broader Iranian strategy to retaliate against military and economic pressure. The escalation underscores the growing role of cyber warfare in modern conflicts, with state-backed actors exploiting digital vulnerabilities to inflict damage without direct kinetic engagement.
