A cybersecurity system that has disabled employee emails, VoIP phones, and the county website is being looked into by Indian River County officials.
The network outage, which was found on October 2020 at night, has since had an impact on the network capabilities in several county offices.
Multiple servers are impacted and three systems have been unavailable for more than 24 hours, according to the organisation; these could be symptoms of ransomware.
Election systems are not affected by this incident, according to county officials, who also stated that current public safety operations are going as planned.
