The social security or driver's licence details of Hillsborough County voters, according to officials, were accessed by the unauthorised user.
The Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Office stated in a news release that it appeared an unauthorised user had illegally accessed and copied files containing personal identity data, such as social security or driver's licence numbers. The user was able to compile the data from the files required to maintain the voter registration list.
The affected population, which the county estimates to be roughly 58,000 people, will soon get letters informing them that their personal information was unlawfully obtained.
