Kern Psychiatric Health and Wellness Center (PWC), a behavioral health practice in Bakersfield, California, disclosed a data breach involving unauthorized access to patient records managed by its third-party vendor, Genesis Healthcare Management. The incident was reported to the California Attorney General on August 21, 2026, with a public notice posted on the company’s website.
Genesis Healthcare Management first detected unusual network activity on June 22, 2026, prompting an investigation with external cybersecurity experts. The probe confirmed that unauthorized parties accessed files containing sensitive patient data belonging to Kern PWC.
Exposed information varied by individual but may have included names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or government-issued IDs, dates of birth, diagnosis and treatment details, prescription information, provider names, medical record numbers, insurance details, and lab results.
In response, Kern PWC is offering 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through Cyberscout to affected individuals. Those notified can enroll using a unique code within 90 days of receiving their letter. A dedicated assistance line (866-906-8720) and mailing address (P.O.
