While critical functions like 911 remain operational, county officials confirmed that affected systems have been taken offline to contain the incident and restore services securely. Unlike the recent ransomware attack on nearby Fulton County where the LockBit 3.0 group claimed responsibility and threatened to leak sensitive data no group has taken credit for the Gilmer County incident.
Fulton County, located about 75 miles away, has been grappling with lingering disruptions to its phone, tax, and court systems since the January 29 attack. The contrast in attribution highlights the unpredictable nature of such cyber threats. Gilmer County officials have not disclosed whether a ransom demand was made.
