Washington Hotel Chain in Japan Hit by Ransomware Attack, Business Data Compromised

Washington Hotel, a business-focused hospitality brand under Fujita Kanko Inc. (WHG Hotels), confirmed a ransomware attack on its servers, exposing internal business data. The breach occurred on February 13, 2026, at 22:00 local time, prompting IT staff to immediately disconnect affected systems to contain the intrusion.

The company, which operates 30 properties across Japan with 11,000 rooms and nearly 5 million annual guests, has launched an internal task force and engaged external cybersecurity experts to assess the impact. While the investigation is ongoing, Washington Hotel confirmed unauthorized access to business data but stated that customer data remains secure, as it is stored on separate, unaffected servers.

The attack has caused operational disruptions, including temporary outages of credit card terminals at some locations, though no major service interruptions have been reported. The financial impact is still under review, and the company has pledged to provide updates as new details emerge.

No ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the attack as of yet. The incident follows a recent surge in cyberattacks targeting Japanese companies, including Nissan, Muji, Asahi, and NTT, though no direct link has been established.

Separately, Japan’s JPCERT/CC warned last week of active exploitation of CVE-2026-25108, a critical command injection flaw in Soliton Systems’ FileZen a widely used file-sharing appliance previously targeted in 2021.
