FRCC Discloses Data Breach Affecting Personal Information of Over 800 Individuals
The Florida Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC), a Tampa-based nonprofit responsible for ensuring the reliability and security of Florida’s bulk power electric system, recently reported a data breach involving unauthorized access to sensitive files. The incident, detected on April 1, 2026, revealed that files were copied without permission between March 30 and April 1, 2026.
While the total number of affected individuals nationwide remains undisclosed, the breach impacted 831 Texas residents and one New Hampshire resident. Exposed data included names and Social Security numbers, raising concerns about potential identity theft.
In response, FRCC launched an investigation, secured its systems, and restored affected data from backups. The organization is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and identity restoration services through IDX to impacted individuals, with enrollment available until August 13, 2026. Affected parties can access these services using a unique code provided in their notification letters.
FRCC has also provided guidance on fraud alerts, credit freezes, and reporting identity theft to authorities like the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). A dedicated assistance line (1-833-788-9712) is available for support, alongside direct contact options via phone and mail.
The breach underscores the growing cybersecurity risks facing critical infrastructure organizations, particularly those managing energy sector operations.
