Black Bear Crashes Through Kentucky Home Ceiling, Lands on Stove
A black bear unexpectedly entered a Bell County, Kentucky, residence last Wednesday around 5 a.m. after climbing a ladder outside, squeezing through an attic opening, and crashing through the ceiling. The animal landed on a kitchen stove, where a Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife warden and a sheriff’s deputy discovered it before guiding it out through an open door.
Photos shared by officials show the bear perched on the stove and a visible hole in the ceiling where it fell. The size of the bear and whether it sustained injuries were not disclosed.
Black bears, once in decline in Kentucky, have rebounded over the past two decades, with growing populations primarily in the state’s eastern regions. While typically elusive, bears may venture near human dwellings due to food attractants like garbage, pet food, or birdfeeders. Wildlife officials note that removing these sources can help deter such encounters.
