Advantage Gold Data Breach Exposes Personal Information of Nearly 8,000 Individuals
Advantage Gold, a Los Angeles-based financial services firm specializing in precious metals IRAs, disclosed a data breach affecting 7,960 individuals across the U.S., including 36 Maine residents. The breach was reported to attorneys general in California, Maine, and Texas on March 29, 2026, with electronic notifications to affected consumers beginning March 27, 2026.
The incident stemmed from a vulnerability in third-party firewall software used by the company. Between late Q3 and early Q4 2025, threat actors exploited the flaw before Advantage Gold was alerted by the vendor, allowing unauthorized access to internal systems. Exposed data included names, addresses, contact details, Social Security numbers, and custodian account numbers.
In response, Advantage Gold is offering 24 months of complimentary identity protection via Experian IdentityWorks, with enrollment available until June 30, 2026. Affected individuals can activate the service using a code provided in their notification or by calling a dedicated support line (833-918-1091). Post-membership, enrollees will retain access to Experian’s ExtendCare identity restoration support.
The breach was discovered on September 5, 2025, though the exact duration of unauthorized access remains unclear. The company has not disclosed whether the incident involved ransomware or data exfiltration.
