Multiple Greek shipping companies have been hit by a ransomware attack that affected a number of Greek shipping companies spread throughout the computer systems of a well-known, reputable IT consulting company.

The IT service company whose services were impacted by the attack, Danaos Management Consultants, verified the event.

The company said that less than 10% of its external customers had their files affected by the ransomware attack, and that Danaos' own shipping operations had not been impacted.

An independent cybersecurity firm has been hired to look into the incident and figure out how Danaos' customer-facing systems were infected with ransomware.

The company tried to restore affected client systems in the interim.
