ComTec Systems Data Breach Investigated After PEAR Ransomware Attack
ComTec Systems, Inc., a New Jersey-based technology solutions provider specializing in cloud services, business communications, and cost-reduction strategies, suffered a data breach in September 2025. The company detected suspicious activity on its network on September 22, 2025, prompting an investigation that revealed unauthorized access between September 19 and 22, 2025. During this period, an unknown actor copied and potentially viewed sensitive files.
On September 26, 2025, the PEAR ransomware group claimed responsibility for the attack and posted details on the dark web. ComTec later confirmed that consumer data was compromised, though only names have been publicly disclosed as exposed. Additional sensitive information including financial account details, dates of birth, addresses, contact information, and Social Security numbers may have also been accessed.
ComTec began notifying affected individuals in writing on April 1, 2026, and reported the breach to the Maine Attorney General the same day. The law firm Shamis & Gentile P.A. is now investigating the incident, with affected individuals potentially eligible for compensation due to the exposure of their personal data.
