Chipotle

In one of the most notable cyber-attacks involving the Carbanak banking Trojan, the Fin7 cybercriminal group targeted various U.S. companies, including the Chipotle and Arby’s restaurant chains. Utilizing sophisticated malware, the attackers infiltrated the companies’ networks to compromise point-of-sale systems and steal the details of 15 million payment cards. This operation was meticulously planned, with intrusions taking between two to four months to execute, culminating in significant financial losses and damage to the companies’ reputations. The breach not only exposed sensitive customer information but also highlighted the growing threat of cybercrime to the financial stability and security of global enterprises. The subsequent arrests of the gang's members provided some measure of justice, yet the continuing evolution of cyber threats poses ongoing risks.
